St. Edward Catholic Church - A brief history

The Catholic Extension Society coupled with the Kansas City’s Bishop Edwin V. O’Hara’s desire to have a parish in every county of that diocese resulted in the founding of St. Edward as a mission church in 1945. Located near Roaring River State Park, the Catholic community numbered 154 parishioners, making it one of the larger mission churches.
On April 6, 1989, a new church, located at our current site, was dedicated to accommodate the growing Catholic population.
In August of 1999 the mission became a parish.
The parish has seen significant growth in subsequent years. This growth in population has increased cultural diversity and outreach of our parish.  As a Parish in a rural area, our members come from several counties in Southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas.

Adult Education

In 2014 we began a program to help  members of our Parish become more conscious, intentional disciples of Jesus Christ. A variety of ongoing adult education programs will be available for all.

Parish School of Religion

The religious education and formation of children begins in the home. Family commitment and parish support are essential.

We have started PSR. Classes are on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m.

An introduction to our Pastor Fr. Bill Hodgson:

Fr. Bill Hodgson was born in Illinois about 80 miles north of St. Louis.  He came to Missouri in 1970 to attend College of the Ozarks. From there he entered Seminary for our Diocese and was ordained in 1979.  During the past 40 years he has served various parishes across the diocese as well as working with the Cursillo movement for 39 of the 40 years.  He came from a family that enjoys music and plays a few instruments (mostly as a hobby).  He served St. Edward’s once previously from 1992-1996 when it was joined with Sts. Peter and Paul in Pulaskifield.
